Minions Guide: Slots, Collections and Money

Why minions are still one of the best ways to push your profile: how minion slots work, what to use minions for, money minions, and the only upgrades you need.

Minions are one of the few things that have stayed consistent over the past six years of Hypixel SkyBlock. They don't get talked about as much as they should, because they're drowned out by years of new content, but they're still one of the best tools for pushing your profile's progression.

This guide is meant for early-game players, and for anyone who has no minions down or doesn't know which ones to place.

How minions work

  • Minions work 24/7.
  • Minions range from tier 1 to tier 12.
  • To unlock more minion slots, you craft unique minions. Once you've crafted a minion at a given tier, crafting it again doesn't count toward new slots.
  • You start with 5 slots. The first few slots only need a few unique crafts, but after a while each new slot takes a lot more.
  • The only other way to get more slots is Elizabeth, who sells minion slot upgrades for 5 extra slots on top of the ones you unlock with unique crafts. Each upgrade takes real time.

What to use minions for

Collections

Outside of money, minions are great for progression. Some collections are incredibly hard to max out without minions:

  • anything involving animals;
  • anything involving fishing;
  • anything involving enemies.

Push these first, before anything else. They give quick SkyBlock XP and unlock some important quality-of-life features and recipes.

Skill XP

Fishing is the only skill whose early game Asxent recommends skipping with minions, since there isn't a great or reliable way to get it out of the way otherwise. You can stop the fishing minions after Fishing 36, or keep going as far as you want. You'll need a good number of minions for this, so dedicate at least a third of your slots to it.

The fishing guide covers the rest of the fishing route.

Money

Minions are also a great way to make passive money. Asxent's favorite is the slime minion; there's more on money minions below.

How many minions?

Get as many as you can. Most minions are very cheap to take to tier 11, except the slayer minions and flower minions, so honestly go for max tier on most of them.

Asxent isn't sure how many coins it takes to reach 30 total minions, but doesn't think it's much, considering how much money you can make nowadays.

Money minions

A lot of people feel very passionate about how to handle this. Asxent thinks of money-making minions in three categories:

TypeExampleHow it works
Ol' reliableSlime minionsA consistent amount of money for almost zero work, though not a lot of it
Market moversLily Pad minions when the Lotus Atoll came outVery dependent on current prices, which follow new demand. You can lose a lot if you go about it wrong: when the material a minion makes is worth a lot, crafting the minions costs a lot too
InfernoInferno minionsPretty expensive at first and need constant work, but make a good bit of money

Asxent uses slime minions and thinks they're great for most stages of the game. Asxent's own slime minions run Corrupt Soil, an Enchanted Hopper, Diamond Spreading and Enchanted Lava Buckets. The passive money making guide covers them too.

Buying minions

A massive way to save money is buying crafted minions from other players. Join one of the big servers, SBM or SBZ, to do this. Asxent wouldn't trust any other servers.

Asxent's own Discord is full of helpful guides for all types of players.

Minion upgrades

This is the only setup Asxent recommends. It has the best quality of life for the effort and cost:

  • Enchanted Hopper
  • Corrupt Soil
  • Lava or Magma Bucket
  • Diamond Spreading

For small extra buffs, use Mithril Infusion, Free Will and the Postcard.
