Farming Progression Guide: Garden and Greenhouse

All of farming, from unlocking the Garden to Farming 50: Garden levels, pests, the Greenhouse, visitors, gear, chips and making money at feasts.

Farming has just had what Asxent believes is its last big update for a while, so this guide covers all of it for anyone pushing the Garden. It starts from zero, as if you've never farmed.

Important

Don't skip any section unless you're confident about everything in the Garden. There's a lot of time and money on the line.

Unlocking the Garden

Farm crops around the Hub until you reach SkyBlock level 5, which unlocks the Garden. Farm literally everything: you'll move through the early Garden levels easily.

Early Garden levels

For now, you're focused on levels:

  • Farm constantly with a Legendary Rabbit pet.
  • Farm a little of everything. Every crop milestone gives a lot of farming XP and Garden XP.
  • Work up from the basic to the advanced hoes and axes, which come with Replenish.

Garden XP raises your Garden level, which unlocks new crop types, new gear and faster growth speed. The routine is:

Farm → spawn visitors → complete their offers → gain Garden XP and Copper → repeat.

What each Garden level unlocks

Garden levelUnlocks
4Jeff (chips) and Peony Equipment
5Pests and Pesthunter's Equipment
7The Greenhouse, from the Carpenter
8Blossom Equipment
9Mushrooms

Jeff and chips

Chips are insanely strong, but they won't be very useful until you max out the Greenhouse. The order to max them in is under Chips.

Pests

Pests are mobs that you suck up with special tools called vacuums.

Important

Buy the max vacuum from the Auction House so you can one-shot pests. This is non-negotiable.

  • Place 3 Vermin Traps and fill them with Dung.
  • Max out the pest Bestiary as soon as possible.

Attributes

Max these attributes as soon as possible: Dragonfly, Beetle, Moth, Cricket, Locust, Fly, Mudworm, Field Mouse, Invisibug, Firefly and Lunar Moth.

The Greenhouse

The Carpenter unlocks the Greenhouse at Garden 7. Focus on it as soon as possible: it's your best source of sowdust, and higher-rarity mutations give a lot of it.

Your whole goal here is to get every type of mutation as early as possible.

  • Unlock every plot with Ethereal Vines as soon as possible.
  • Aim to eventually unlock Phantom Leaf. It makes decent money, has great quality-of-life features like no watering, and gives around 6.7m sowdust a day when maxed.
  • Buy the max sprinkler, and eventually all 3 greenhouses.
  • Learn to use the SkyMutations website. It isn't that hard.

Pushing to Farming 50

At Garden 9 you unlock mushrooms. Farm them: they give the most farming XP.

Bachelor Roses

To push your farming and Garden levels as fast as possible, buy Bachelor Roses from the Bazaar and give them to legendary visitors every day. At the maximum of 5 legendary visitors a day, you'll hit Farming 50 in no time, much faster than through farming.

Keep farming anyway

Actively farming has a hidden perk: visitors spawn 3x faster, every 5 minutes instead of every 15. Farming one crop keeps this simple, since you're not running around, just repeating the routine.

Tip

Always farm when you can.

  • Accept visitors that give a lot of farming XP, and reject the ones that give little.
  • Ignore money for now. You're focused on progress; money comes later.

Keep going until Farming 50, progressing the Greenhouse for sowdust along the way.

Ideally, run two Helianthus sets: one with 4/4 Mantid, and one with 3/4 Mossy and 1/4 Mantid. If you're short on coins, one full Mossy set with Pesterminator VI is great for both the Greenhouse and regular farming.

Equipment and loadouts

Equipment goes from Peony (Garden 4) to Pesthunter's (Garden 5) to Blossom (Garden 8). You'll need two loadouts:

LoadoutUsed forGear
1Spawning pestsSqueaky Pesthunter's equipment with a Squeaky Pest Vest
2Farming and killing pestsGreen Thumb V, a Rooted Blossom set, and a Rooted Zorro's Cape if you've unlocked it

Pets

JobPet
Crop farmingMythic Elephant or Mooshroom Cow
Spawning pestsSlug or Mosquito
Killing pestsHedgehog

Buy most of these at or near max level. The Hedgehog is especially important: Overbloom acts as a magic find, and because money comes from feast drops, it's a huge factor for money.

Tools

Buy most of your farming tools through a server like SBM or SBZ, where people have good deals. Crafting them or finding good Auction House deals is fine too. Use Skyblocker to check whether a deal is good.

Fortune boosts

Chips

Max the Visitor chip first, before Farming 50. Then reset your chips: you get back the sowdust you've spent on them and can put it on a different chip. Max out these next, in order:

  1. Pest Chance
  2. Temporary Fortune
  3. Overbloom
  4. Base Fortune
  5. Overdrive
  6. Tool Exp Capsule

Do the rest after that, in any order.

Sprayonators

  • Max out your Sprayonators. Start with the basic nozzle and work up to Salty.
  • The best spray is Plant Matter, for Slug pet drops.
  • Keep your Infini-Vroom set to slugs too, and consume all Wriggling Larva. They count towards your pest count.

Tip

Always use the Temporary Fortune booster.

These are the biggest fortune boosts. For smaller, niche sources of fortune and Overbloom, use EliteSkyblock.

Making money with feasts

Wheat is the best crop for base crop money. For better rates, though, farm only during the Harvest Feast and Grand Feast (the Grand Feast guide covers both):

  • Set your music vinyls or bait to the pest with the most expensive feast drop. That depends on what's in season, which Chef Teddy in the Hub tells you, and it can make you a lot of money.
  • Seasoning and rare crops are affected by Overbloom, so make sure you're farming the right pest and crop type.
  • Meeting seasoning milestones gives you kernels. Chef Teddy shows the milestones too.

Tip

To save time catching offline pests, use Buzzybee's Fantabulous Disco Destination. They all gather there.

Max setups

Max setups use things like perfect gemstones, a Rose Dragon, Sunset V and other very expensive items. You can still make good money just by farming during feasts, and together with the Greenhouse, farming is great. If you do want a max setup, EliteSkyblock tells you your next cheapest farming fortune upgrade.

Is farming worth it?

Despite all the changes, farming is still in a great spot. If you haven't focused on it yet, you should.
